Project Green Light

On March 1st, the Kansas City Community Bail Fund launched Project GreenLight--a program created to address a rarely-discussed local and national crisis: illegal driving.

Tens of thousands of Kansas City residents drive with a suspended license, without insurance, with expired tags, or in a vehicle that hasn't been registered...because they cannot afford these expenses.

They risk being pulled over, ticketed, fined, towed, or arrested and jailed...but most have no choice but to drive so they can get to work, take their kids to school, and go to appointments and the grocery store.

For more program details and criteria or to apply for assistance  click on Apply for Assistance from the Project GreenLight drop-down menu.

In addition to providing financial assistance, we are currently:

  • Recruiting attorneys who will provide pro bono services to help our clients get their licenses reinstated.
  • Planning to offer free reinstatement workshops, where the steps for getting a license reinstated will be explained and questions answered.
  • Working to implement other solutions to the illegal driving crisis on both sides of the state line.

Eliminating the barriers of driving illegally leads to healthier and more stable individuals, families, and communities. Project GreenLight is the only charitable organization in the county area assisting with these costs.

To allow us to help as many people as possible, we are actively seeking donations to Project GreenLight. Please consider donating to this critically important program.

We will need many volunteers to help make Project GreenLight a success! If you're interested in helping, please complete our volunteer application! If you have questions about Project GreenLight, please get in touch: ProjectGreenLight@kcbail.fund
